
1. All racers should use only the Official Pinewood Derby Car Kit available at any Scout Shop or
online at http://www.scoutstuff.org/.
2. Maximum car weight shall not be over 5 ounces
3. Car length shall not be more than 7”
4. Car width shall not be more than 2 ¾”
5. Minimum distance between wheels should not be less than 1 ¾”
6. Clearance under the car should be 3/8”
7. The car should not exceed 4” in height to properly clear the electronic timer
8. Wheel bearings, washers, and bushings are prohibited
9. Only dry lubricant is permitted: graphite or dry white Teflon. No lubricating oil
10. Details such as steering wheel, driver, fenders, fins are permissible as long as these details do not
exceed the maximum length, width and weight
11. The car must be free-wheeling with no starting devices, (i.e., magnets, rubber bands, spring-loads)
12. Deburring and polishing of the axles is allowed
13. Moderate sanding of the wheels’ surface is allowed to provide for a truer racing surface. However,
significant rounding or reshaping of the wheel is not allowed
14. It is not required to use the provided axle mounting slots. New slots may be cut or holes may be
drilled to provide for a truer wheel installation. Extended wheelbases are allowed
15. Each car must pass a pre-race inspection as directed by the Cubmaster or event organizer. If the car
does not pass inspection the racer will be informed and given time to make any adjustments
16. Each car is to be labeled with a unique number for race registration. This year the boys will be able to pick a number and name for there car. Picking of numbers and names is on a first come first serve basis at the weigh in.
